Hi Lisa,
So ... I did it! Over one whole month of painting full-time and I'm NOT a starving artist lol 🎉
The first weeks of May were a flurry of activity with no painting at all, actually. The first part of the month I was getting ready for the Hills to Short Studio Tour on Mother's Day weekend, then not two days after it finished, we were off for our annual May long weekend camping trip to Tofino. We spend a great week on the west coast hanging out with friends and we all surfed to our heart's content! Check out some of our trip photos below ...
Once back in the studio, I thought I'd spend time staring at a blank canvas wondering what on earth I was thinking. And I mean ... I did do a little of that. But mostly it has been the most joy-filled, creative, occasionally chaotic month I can remember. Turns out when you give yourself permission to actually do the thing you love - magical things happen. Who knew! 😄
I've been painting, planning, working on lessons for my art membership + courses and drinking far too much coffee. Yup - my dream! ☕ 🎨 |

This is a fantastic outdoor brand-new art event featuring a wonderful group of local artists - paintings, mixed media, handmade treasures and more - all in the relaxed, scenic setting of the cidery + orchard. Kids are welcome, furry friends too of course 🐾 ... And if you show up just for the amazing cider I won't judge you one bit 🍺
I spent a few hours today doing a mock-up in the backyard of my tent display for the show. Check out the sneak preview below!

My free online art classes are back 🎉
Now that I'm painting full time, I'm planning to run one every month or so - because why wouldn't I use my newfound freedom to hang out and paint with you all?! 😄
The next one is happening on Wednesday, June 17th at 11:00am PST and it's going to be a start-to-finish watercolour sketchbooking demo. If you've ever stared at a blank page feeling completely frozen, or you just want some fresh tips and a friendly nudge to get your brush moving - this one is for you. And if that wasn't enough exciting news ...
I am absolutely thrilled to share that my work will be showing for the entire month of JULY at the stunning Coast Victoria Hotel & Marina. We're talking the whole lobby floor AND the beautiful Blue Crab Seafood House - which means I need somewhere in the neighbourhood of 50 paintings (yikes 😬). Big ones, small ones, everything in between. I will essentially be emptying out my entire studio of paintings and sending them off to live their best lives on some very fancy walls. It's equal parts exhilarating and overwhelming - which feels about right for this season of my life.
So if you're in Victoria in July, please go visit my paintings and say hello to them for me. They'll be the ones trying to look sophisticated in a lovely waterfront setting. |
