A West Coast Creative Life

Studio Notes from the Coast

 - Upcoming shows (one with special savings!) + studio tour
 - Permission to Play Society embership update
 - Something special coming soon 💥

______________________________________________________

Spring is finally here ... and with it, a whole lot of creative energy 🌸

I’ve got some exciting things coming up over the next couple of months - including a rare opportunity to collect my work at a price I almost never offer!

Square Foot Show - April 9

This coming Thursday, I’ll be participating in the Square Foot Show - a completely online exhibition featuring 29 different artists. This show is all about Trees. I’ll have 4 original 12x12” paintings available in the show (see the left image above).

Here’s the part you’ll want to pay attention to: Each painting is priced at $350 CAD. For reference - my 12x12” paintings are usually $550 ... so yes, this is a pretty amazing deal 😃

If you’re interested in discovering new artists (or adding a piece of my work to your collection), you’ll want to register on their website ahead of time. Once you sign up, you’ll receive access to a 48-hour preview before the show opens. This is key. Take your time during the preview and choose your favourites - because once the show goes live on April 9th at 5pm PST, paintings tend to sell very quickly. If you already know what you love, you’ll want to be ready.

Bonus - when you subscribe, you also are entered to win a free 12x12" painting!

Hills to Shore Studio Tour

If you’re local to the Victoria / South Vancouver Island, mark your calendar for Mother's Day weekend 🌷

This is one of my favourite events of the year. 19 artists. 10 locations. A beautiful mix of paintings, jewellery, glasswork, sculpture and more.

This year (my 3rd as a participant) will be a little different for me - I’ll be at Location 8, sharing space with Janet Anderson and her amazing floral paintings in her gorgeous home.

In addition to my west coast paintings, cards + prints, I’ll also be showcasing something brand NEW ....

Lately, I’ve been diving into a completely new medium - Linocut printing. (Yes ... and fully leaning into my incurable art supply addiction while I’m at it 😆)

I’ve always loved linoprints and have finally been experimenting with it! I've been working at translating some of my landscape paintings into linoprints and also playing with new subjects like whales and hummingbirds. It’s been such a fun challenge to simplify shapes and explore a totally new creative process.

I’ll be offering some of these linoprints for sale for the very first time at the studio tour.

So if you’re curious to see what I’ve been working on behind the scenes, this is where you’ll want to come.

Junction Cidery Art Walk

June 13 + 14

This is a brand new event, and I know it will be so much fun. The inaugural art walk at Junction Cidery in Saanich will feature 10 Vancouver Island artists in a beautiful setting ... and I'd say that art + cider is a pretty great combination!

More details will be coming soon, but for now - save the date 😄

I’ve been having so much fun inside my creative membership "Permission to Play Society". Every month, we gather for creative inspiration, lessons and virtual get-togethers - and it’s definitely  one of my favourite spaces.

This month feels especially fresh and inspiring with spring here, so I created a brand new lesson for my members on painting cherry blossoms in acrylic. Which is a bit different for me - as you know, I mostly paint landscapes.

But here’s what I loved about it …

I taught it using the exact same process I use for my landscapes. Because once you understand the process, you can apply it to anything - florals, landscapes, whatever you want to create!

If you’ve been curious about joining Permission to Play Society, now’s the time to get on the waitlist. I’ll be opening the doors again very soon.

Oh, and one more thing … Just between us - something BIG is coming soon! I’ve been deep in it behind the scenes, and I can’t wait to share. Not quite ready yet … but stay close 👀

Spring has a way of waking things up again - including that creative part of you that might have been sitting quietly through the winter. I encourage you to make space for it!

And if collecting art, exploring shows, or reconnecting with your own creativity is part of that ... I’d love to be part of it!
